Domus

University of Pennsylvania | The Hanover Company

Location Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Located adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania's campus and the 33rd Street Station, Domus contains 290 loft apartments and over 25,000 SF of ground level retail for the adjacent community to patronize.

The base of the building is full of active retail that has been extremely successful. These spaces were quickly leased to retailers ranging from banks to outdoor clothing stores to cafes and restaurants that have added much needed amenities for the residents and the whole community. The approximately 2.5-acre parcel of land also includes a dedicated, five-story parking garage with controlled access to 320 spaces.

One of the most unique aspects of the project is the courtyard's art installation. Working with the City of Philadelphia's "One Percent for Fine Art" initiative, the design team created an installation that would turn the entire public courtyard into a work of art - with landscape, hardscape, sculpture, water and sound all part of the shared urban experience. In the end the art, the plazas, and the architecture work together seamlessly to reinforce one another and to create a unique heart to the community.
