Design Collective’s design for the 100 Light Street pedestrian plaza was recognized as one of the three 2013 Inform Award recipients for outstanding landscape architecture in the Mid-Atlantic region. 100 Light Street is a classic 1960’s modernist office tower and landmark building that rises 35 stories above a 1.3 acre granite plinth, located at the nexus of Baltimore’s Downtown and Inner Harbor. The design team took an innovative approach to reposition Baltimore’s tallest building, by salvaging construction materials from the building itself and reusing them in sustainable and innovative ways to transform the formerly barren plaza into a vibrant urban garden. Prominent architects and design jurors – William Chapin, FAIA; Graham Gund, FAIA; and Bing Thom, AIA, FRAIC – commented on the project: “A masterful and elegant re-design that promises to instill exciting urban life back into a tired urban space.” Each year, the Inform Awards, sponsored by the Virginia Society AIA, recognize the best projects by Mid-Atlantic firms and designers in landscape architecture, interior design, and object design.
