After an extraordinary 37-year career, firm president and principal, Fred Marino, AIA, will retire from Design Collective this fall.
Fred joined Design Collective in 1989 as a Project Architect and, through decades of leadership, dedication, and professional excellence, rose to become a principal and one of the firm's most respected voices in educational planning and design. Throughout his career, he has helped shape countless learning environments that have positively impacted students, educators, and communities across Maryland and beyond.
A recognized leader in both higher education and K–12 design, Fred has been instrumental in fostering enduring client relationships and delivering transformative projects for many of the region's most prominent institutions. His portfolio includes award-winning projects with the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore City Public Schools, and Baltimore County Public Schools, among many others. His thoughtful approach to project management, commitment to collaboration, and unwavering focus on client success have left a lasting mark on Design Collective and each institution he served.
Reflecting on Fred's remarkable career, incoming President Mike Goodwin, a longtime colleague and friend, shared:
