Design Collective was hired by Federal Realty Investment Trust to lead off the redevelopment of Mid-Pike Plaza in Rockville, Maryland, with the design of two new transit-oriented mixed-use residential buildings totaling 542,000 gsf. The first building will be a concrete high-rise residential tower with above-grade podium parking and 300 residential units. The second building will be a wood frame four-story residential building with 159 residential units above a retail podium with below-grade parking. Design Collective is working closely with Federal Realty, their master planner, Streetworks, and Vika Engineers to deliver a sustainable live-work-shop community, emphasizing smart growth principles, that will drive the revitalization of Rockville Pike. The first two buildings are scheduled to be completed in 2014.
