Design Collective, Inc., one of the area’s premier architecture, interior architecture and planning firms, won a 2006 Design Build Institute – Ohio Valley Chapter Merit Award for the Art Academy of Cincinnati in the Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration category.

The Art Academy, after 115 years on historic Mount Adams, relocated their academic facilities to the corner of 12th and Jackson Streets in the heart of Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine district. The new location featured the adaptive use and transformation of two historic buildings into one facility that allows all 300 students to learn their craft in one combined location. Completed in June 2005, the new facility includes an enhanced student life area, greater instructional areas, as well as independent studio space for upperclassmen. Through the application and consideration of sustainable design principles in the redevelopment of the Art Academy, Design Collective anticipates Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Certification for this preservation project.
