The Baltimore Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Baltimore) announced The Fitzgerald as its Grand Design Award Winner in this year’s Annual Design Awards Program. Of 57 entries, eight- (8) were selected for design awards by this year’s internationally-recognized jury from Boston, Massachusetts. The Fitzgerald, a new transit-oriented development and mixed-use apartment community in Baltimore’s Mount Vernon district, was recognized by the jurors who stated that “This double-courtyard building is well-tailored to its site and complex program. It is well-integrated with adjacent transportation lines, and the variety of scales works well with the city. The very large parking garage is well-shielded. We applaud the transparent bridge, the well-executed shops, and the inviting interiors.” The winners of this Grand Design Award, as well as others, were honored on Friday, October 21 at the 2011 Excellence in Design Awards Celebration at the new Goucher College Athenaeum in Baltimore, Maryland. The event attracted approximately 300 people from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
