Design Collective is working with the University of Maryland College Park to renovate H.J. Patterson Hall, a historic building on McKeldin Mall, to house the Office of International Affairs and a unique collection of foreign language and culture programs for the College of Arts and Humanities. The building is centered around a new Global Lounge and spaces that are arranged to visibly and physically connect traditionally distinct departments, encouraging interaction between domestic and international students and engaging scholars and visitors in a building that celebrates international and cultural diversity. In bringing these departments together, Design Collective is positioning Patterson Hall to become the center of the University’s growing international student population with the idea of “Introducing Maryland to the world and introducing the world to Maryland.” The project is targeting a minimum of LEED Silver certification.
