Queens College of the City University of New York has commissioned Design Collective, Inc. to design their first on-campus student housing project. This project will enable the College to attract students who otherwise would not have considered attending due to the lack in on-campus housing.

The project, located in the heart of the campus between Rosenthal Library and Fitzgerald Gym, will feature the use of sustainable design principles in its aim for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The program calls for 450-500 beds that will be broken into three sections within the facility to allow students to interact in smaller “communities”. Numerous outdoor courtyards, common gathering spaces, and possibly retail, will encourage student interaction and community development. The program will also include 200 additional parking spaces for the campus.

“We look forward to working with the CUNY system in developing another momentous student housing project that will bring great opportunity to both the College and the community as The Towers, another Design Collective project, has done for both the City College of New York and the surrounding Harlem community,” said Dennis Jankiewicz, AIA, president of Design Collective, Inc.
