Three Design Collective projects were awarded interior design awards by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter. The firm was honored for its creative and innovative designs for Johns Hopkins University’s Charles Commons, Towson University’s Center for the Arts and Planit.
Planit received the Gold Award in the Commercial Under 20,000 SF category. This advertising, interactive and PR agency was looking for a space that reflected the client side and creative side of the office with two distinct environments. The design team responded with a space that was bright, polished, but still playful and whimsical on one side, with a more edgy, back-of-house design on the other side.
Center for the Arts won the Gold Award in the Education/Institutional category for its creation of an environment that encourages interactions and the opportunity for students to continually develop their own learning space. The heart of the building is marked by a new three-story atrium which features 28 colored skylights artistically arranged in the ceiling to create a unique space that changes hourly with color and shadows moving around the perimeter.
The Bronze Award in the Education/Institutional category was awarded to Charles Commons. The mixed-use student housing project offers students and the community a place to come together through a variety of public spaces that include a 25,000 SF Barnes & Noble University Bookstore and a state-of-the-art 300-seat dining and conference facility.
The awards were given out at the IIDA Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s annual Premiere on April 26, which honored a fantastic year of design achievements in the Mid-Atlantic Chapter.
