Calvert Marine Museum Site Master Plan

Calvert County Government

Location Solomons, Maryland

The Calvert Marine Museum, a public non-profit, is situated on the Chesapeake Bay. The museum’s fiftieth anniversary will arrive in 2020, and in an effort to remain a pivotal cultural and ecological landmark and propel the facility into a vibrant future, the museum has outlined a four-part vision.

These objectives include maximizing existing space, acquiring property for future development, focusing on waterfront development, and building a Paleontology Collections and Research Center. These transformative projects will seamlessly integrate recently acquired properties for a continuous visitor experience and provide the museum with an opportunity to plan for these large campus changes strategically through a site master planning process.

Design Collective was hired by the Calvert County Government to develop a site master plan for the Calvert Marine Museum. At Design Collective, we believe in the importance of our role in preserving and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its related ecologies. This project is an exciting opportunity to explore a responsible and sustainable future of waterfront planning and design while simultaneously developing new ways for museum visitors to be educated and inspired by the bay.
