University of Idaho Student Housing
University of Idaho
Design Collective and Integrus Architecture were selected to reimagine housing at the University of Idaho's Moscow campus. Together with university stakeholders, we developed a comprehensive Student Housing Masterplan to rethink the campus's housing stock for current and future needs, in support of the university’s strategic objectives to enhance recruitment, retention, and quality of life.
The first phase of this masterplan, the recently approved South Hill Apartments, is envisioned as a vibrant "village" designed to house single graduate students and students and faculty with families. Here’s what makes this project unique:
• Community-Centered Design: Open spaces form the heart of the village fostering connections and recreation.
• Preserving Nature: The placement of new buildings celebrates the site's mature trees, ensuring they remain as focal points for the community.
• Contextual Architecture: Roof forms draw inspiration from the surrounding mountains, contextualizing the architecture within its natural environment.
• Walkability & Wellness: Parking is thoughtfully distributed to encourage use of walkable, bikeable pathways, promoting a health-conscious and sustainable community.
